Snapper
Clod dug up at trail's edge--
mud-colored, clawed and pitted,
gator-tailed--
sinks small head and little eye
in many folded neck,
viper sharp and and able to wait
forever.
mud-colored, clawed and pitted,
gator-tailed--
sinks small head and little eye
in many folded neck,
viper sharp and and able to wait
forever.
Language and observation, sound and sight, all wonderfully work as one in this fine poem.
ReplyDeleteThank you! It was the first snapper I've seen in the wild, and I found it very striking.
